Sachtler unveils the SOOM, the world’s first multifunctional camera support system for the range of Mini DV to HDV camcorders. Developed to solve the shooter’s dilemma of which type of camera support to transport to studio or location, Sachtler’s innovative new SOOM elegantly configures into 4 distinct support tools - all in one compact, easy-to-carry system.

 

A durable, compact and flexible LED light with variable input voltage from 6 to 24 volts, making it ideal for use with a range of camera from small 7.2 volt (H)DV cameras to commonly-used broadcast camcorders. The luminaire deploys all the advantages of the latest LED technology: energy efficiency, the exceptionally long life of the LED chip, an extremely low failure rate, and minimal heat generation.

A rigid, waterproof aluminium housing allows use of the Reporter 8LED in extreme shooting situations. The user can apply three different accessory sets to provide a wide range of light design solutions.

 

Formatt filters would like to announce that due to industry demands, its entire range of glass filters are now available in both 3mm framed and 4mm gauge.

Traditionally Formatt have made 3mm glass with a protective black frame, as the thinner glass produced less optical distortion. However, rental company feedback indicated the requirement for a 4mm version, that had the look and feel as other manufacturers. So using the same manufacturing processes, precision and care for which Formatt if recognised, the 4mm filters are now available.

Formatt’s new 4mm filters are edged using a hard protective resin to aid longevity.

 

Filmakers looking to achieve 35mm depth of field on video cameras will be happy to learn that the Redrock Micro M2 35mm lens adapter system is now available in the UK from Production Gear and online from Video Gear.

The M2 System allows the use of 35mm photographic lenses on HDV and DV camcorders whilst retaining the characteristics of film including angle of view and depth of field.
